Loving what you do!

Can doing what you love be a sensible business approach that shapes your mission?

“Here at Opening Doors & Venues,” says owner Rose Padmore, “our client sector focus has definitely been influenced, in recent years, by the realisation that when working on projects we truly believe in, the resulting ’spring in our step’ undoubtedly improves productivity and efficiency.”

“The thing is, working alongside passionate client teams to help them develop and deliver events with important messages, with the objective of influencing change, is a great team motivator.”

Such a project, Talent Match, reached the end of its 5year life in December 2018 with the goodnews it will continue in another guise. The OD&V team have been involved since the beginning and, when reflecting, are extremely proud of their role in bringing its achievements to the forefront of people’s minds and the consequential decision to invest in a legacy project.

Developed by the Big Lottery Fund, Talent Match has been running since 2013 in 21 key areas across the country highlighted as having high levels of youth unemployment. Targeting young people who are furthest from the jobs market, including those who are completely outside of the benefits, work and training system and facing severe barriers to gaining the skills they need to get into work, the Talent Match programme really has made a difference and has started successful unique support services that will continue.

Opening Doors and Venues were selected to organise a number of key events for Talent Match Black Country and Sheffield City Regions over a 5year period and have produced annual conferences and awards evenings to celebrate the success and achievements of these young people.

“It has been a privilege to support the regional teams to produce events with strong and important messages, as well as put on a good show!” says Madalina Marincas, Conference Organiser. “We have been key in bringing multiple partner organisations together for each event, producing and guiding them to include valuable and interesting content, and added highlights.”

Another national programme set up by the Big Lottery Fund that OD&V are enthusiastic and proud to deliver conferences for, is Ageing Better, where 14 regional partnerships work to put older people in the lead to help shape services that tackle isolation and loneliness.

In conclusion, holding fast to an evolved mission has impacted on the company’s recent success and the Opening Doors & Venues team will continue to seek contracts that motivate and inspire!
